How to deal with the mental aspect of sports injuries

Having a sports injury often involves five stages of grief - very similar to losing a loved one. Here's how to deal with it.

Hi there,

This week’s main article is about an often ignored aspect of sports injuries - the mental challenges.

I don’t know whether any research has been done on it, but I definitely find that my patients go through very similar stages to the five stages of grief when we lose a loved one, as described by Elizabeth Kubler-Ross.

The five stages are denial, anger, bargaining, depression (I think calling it low mood in this case is more appropriate), and acceptance.
