Lateral hip pain – Causes and treatment
Our expert guide to diagnosing and treating pain over the outside of the hip
Hi there,
Pain over the outside of the hip or in the gluteal area was traditionally blamed on trochanteric bursitis.
But thanks to advances in imaging technology and research we now know that lateral hip pain is actually often caused by a combination of gluteal tendinopathy and bursitis, and researchers have therefore proposed that a better name for pain in this area may be Greater Trochanteric Pain Syndrome.
Tap or click below for our eight-part video series that covers everything from the causes and symptoms of this syndrome, to practical tips to make sitting and sleeping less painful for patients, to what rehab exercises to prescribe.
